What Types of Materials Are Used for Packing?

Our crews use high-quality industry-standard packing materials. To protect and cushion a customer’s items, our loading service will ensure that items are wrapped with professionally woven moving blankets. We do not use paper pads, which often tear or rip during transport.

What Happens If I Use More Or Less Space Than Estimated?

Our inventory process is designed to accurately determine your space needs before the move. If the inventory you provide is accurate, there won’t be any additional charges for extra space. However, if there are more items than initially listed, resulting in the use of additional space, your moving cost may be adjusted accordingly. This adjustment would be based on the original per-foot rate to account for the extra footage used. To prevent any surprises, please ensure your inventory is as accurate as possible during the booking process. In the event that you decide to leave items behind, you have the flexibility to adjust your inventory up to 5 days prior to your move to guarantee accuracy. Following any updates, your dedicated moving advisor will provide an updated price based on your updated inventory. What Causes My Estimated Costs to Change?

Provided we have an accurate inventory and you do not make any changes to the move dates, your estimated costs should not change. In the event of unforeseen “Additional Services” (such as multiple flights of stairs or a “long carry” when the truck cannot get close to your home), these charges would be added to your total move price. We chose Moving of America because of the good reviews, Joey the project manager was great, our local NJ pickup experience was genuinely excellent.. crew was professional, efficient, careful with our belongings, and overall gave us confidence that we had chosen the right company for our interstate move.

Unfortunately, the interstate portion of the move completely ruined that experience.

What we later discovered is that interstate moves are clearly not handled the same way as their local operations, despite being led to believe the move would remain within their own team. Once our shipment left NJ, communication, accountability, and overall professionalism changed.

By that point, Moving of America had already collected the majority of the payment, while the remaining balance was due to the company handling the delivery.

At delivery, the driver who was contracted out called me and said he didn’t think he could get into the neighborhood and that he would have to go and get a shuttle. I asked him how many guys he had, he indicated 2.. I said why don’t we use my own smaller moving truck instead, and the driver confirmed and to meet him a mile from our house with our truck.

Only after we arrived at the transfer point, no helpers were there- only the driver and at that point, we were informed for the first time that because we used our own truck, delivery labor was cancelled entirely. This was never disclosed beforehand. No revised agreement or change in scope was provided or signed. We were suddenly left responsible for unloading, unwrapping, and moving an entire household into our home ourselves after arriving in our new state only hours earlier with two young children.

The driver would not transfer the belongings into our truck until payment was made, despite the agreed delivery services no longer being performed as originally contracted.

Because everything remained wrapped at the transfer point, there was no realistic ability to inspect our belongings for damage there. After completing the move ourselves and removing the wrapping inside the home, before having to return all of the moving blankets because the driver said MofA would charge him if he didn’t return all of them, we discovered damage to a dresser and mirror.

What has been most disappointing is how the situation was handled afterward. Our move took place in February, and after more than a month of detailed back-and-forth communication attempting to resolve this professionally, the company ultimately stopped responding altogether. Multiple requests for the recorded phone call from the day of delivery were ignored. Formal complaints were filed with the Better Business Bureau and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, yet even after those filings there was still no meaningful effort to resolve the situation.

The only offer ever made was a $300 “goodwill” payment intended to cover both the damaged items and the significant delivery issues. Within the release documents for their “goodwill” offer you essentially waive your rights from later pursuing any public reviews related to your dispute and the company is not deemed responsible for anything, which is ironic because no responsibility was taken anyway. They provided no willingness to reasonably negotiate, no meaningful counteroffer, and no acknowledgment of the fact that the contracted delivery services were never actually completed.

This review is not being written simply because issues occurred during a move — things happen stuff can break. It is being written because of the lack of transparency, the last-minute change in delivery execution, the refusal to provide requested documentation, and the complete lack of accountability once the interstate portion began.

The local NJ team was genuinely very good, which honestly makes this even more disappointing. If you are considering Moving of America for an interstate move I genuinely hope your experience is much better then ours because our interstate experience was very different from what was represented upfront.
