The City of Savannah limits large trucks in the downtown Historic District, the area between River Street, East Broad Street, Gaston Street, and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Trucks longer than 34 feet, or with more than three axles, need a temporary use permit to make a moving delivery there. Permit holders also cannot deliver during the busy hours of 7 to 9 AM, noon to 1 PM, and 4 to 6 PM.
If the truck will block a lane, sidewalk, or parking space, the city also requires a Right-of-Way Permit. The base application fee is $45, and using metered spaces or a loading zone needs a commercial vehicle decal from Parking Services first.
