The movers were professional and able to move an extra large couch through a very tight space, that seemed nearly impossible. They worked quickly and efficiently as well.Posted on Google![]()

A friend recommended Moving of America, and choosing them was one of the best decisions I made. The team worked efficiently, and my foreman made sure everything was handled properly, wrapped carefully, and completed according to my requests. I highly recommend Moving of America. A special thank-you to Joey for his amazing attention and support, from the very first phone call until the end of my move.Posted on Google![]()

We had an excellent experience with our move today. The team worked from 10am to 5:15pm in extremely hot weather, and our new home has lots of stairs on a hill—definitely not an easy job. Despite that, all four movers were professional, efficient, and handled everything with great care. They stayed positive the entire time and truly went above and beyond. Highly recommend!Posted on Google![]()

We had an absolutely wonderful experience with Moving of America! The entire team was professional, friendly, careful, and incredibly hardworking from start to finish. They arrived on time, handled all of our furniture and belongings with great care, and made sure everything arrived safely at our new home. I would highly recommend them for your next move!

The best mover for this route depends on why you’re making the move. Most New Jersey households heading to Michigan fall into one of three groups, and Moving of America plans each move around what that household needs most.
Households moving for lower costs. New Jersey has the highest effective property tax rate in the country. Many families who sell here can buy a larger home in Oakland County, Ann Arbor, or Grand Rapids and still keep the difference. They’ve already done the math, so they want a binding estimate that won’t change on delivery day.
Professionals relocating for work. Michigan’s automotive and mobility engineering sector, the EV and battery supply chain, the Ann Arbor to Detroit research corridor, and the region’s major health systems draw steady relocations from New Jersey. These moves usually run on an employer’s timeline with a fixed start date, so a confirmed pickup date and a reliable delivery window matter most.
Whatever brings you to Michigan, the right long-distance mover gives you a written binding estimate, a clear delivery plan, and a crew that knows Michigan’s roads and seasons before the truck leaves New Jersey.
Finding an interstate mover you can actually trust is harder than it should be. Most people have heard a story about a delivery window that stretched past a week, a price that changed once the truck was loaded, or a crew from a company they never booked with.
Moving of America has moved New Jersey households and offices across state lines since 2007. Here is what that looks like on the roughly 615-mile run to Michigan.
We are not a broker selling your move to whichever carrier bids lowest that week. Moving of America is a New Jersey carrier with our own trucks and our own crews, and we run this lane often enough to know where it gets complicated.
Most shipments head west on I-80 across Pennsylvania, pick up the Ohio Turnpike, and turn north on I-75 into Michigan. The hard part usually comes near the end.
Michigan’s frost laws cut legal truck weights on seasonal roads every spring. Many lake properties sit on gravel or privately maintained roads.
Every Upper Peninsula delivery crosses the Mackinac Bridge, which restricts trucks in high winds. A navigation app will not flag any of that. We plan the route around the season, the destination, and the equipment before your truck leaves Ridgefield.
We do. We deliver across both peninsulas:
A Detroit delivery and a Marquette delivery need different transit plans, and we quote them that way.
Your price comes from a detailed inventory of your household goods. It depends on volume, packing scope, destination region, access at the new address, and your move dates.
A spring delivery on a seasonal road or a winter delivery into the lake-effect snow belt may need extra planning, and we account for it upfront. Your Move Advisor walks you through every factor before you book, and the estimate you sign is binding.
Not with us. Labor, truck, equipment, and the route plan are all included in the binding estimate. Sometimes a new home sits on a gravel lake road a full-size truck cannot reach, or a building requires a Certificate of Insurance. We identify those issues during the survey and price them then. Nothing gets added 600 miles from home.
Your move can include residential and commercial moving, packing and unpacking, disassembly and reassembly, and loading and unloading. We also provide shuttle service for addresses a full-size truck cannot reach, COI issuance for buildings and communities that require one, and both short and long-term storage at our climate-controlled Ridgefield facility.
On an interstate move, a crew is responsible for your belongings for days at a time, which raises the stakes on who you let through the door. Every person on our team is background-checked and trained by us, and we use no day laborers or subcontractors.
Moving of America is fully licensed, insured, and accredited, operating under NJ License #39PC00096600, USDOT #1601312, and MC #592337. We carry liability and cargo coverage on every move, and we hold A+ Better Business Bureau accreditation and AMSA ProMover status.
The same three things come up again and again: we arrived when we said we would, we took care with their belongings, and the final invoice matched the estimate. On long-distance moves, customers often add a fourth. They could reach a real person and get a clear update while their shipment was on the road.
When frozen roads thaw in spring, they get weaker, so Michigan law limits how much weight trucks can carry. MDOT calls these seasonal weight restrictions, and drivers call them frost laws.
On seasonal routes, weight limits drop 25 percent on concrete roads and 35 percent on asphalt roads. All-season routes have no reduction. Trucks over 10,000 pounds on restricted roads are also capped at 35 mph. These restrictions apply in March, April, and May. In 2026, they started February 17 and were fully lifted May 15.
A full truck may not be allowed on the most direct road to your new home. The fix is using all-season roads, splitting the load, or switching to a smaller shuttle truck for the last stretch. Experienced full-service movers plan for this before delivery day.
Michigan has many gravel and private roads, especially around lake homes in Oakland, Livingston, Washtenaw, and Grand Traverse counties. Whether you are moving from a house or working with apartment movers, check access to your new home before you book.
Private lake roads may not support a loaded moving truck, and spring weight limits can make a March delivery harder. During your estimate, we check the road surface, width, clearance, and turnaround space. If you need a shuttle truck, we include it in your binding estimate before you sign.
Michigan works like two separate regions. Marquette is far north of Detroit, so an Upper Peninsula move needs its own transit plan and an overnight stop. Every UP delivery also crosses the Mackinac Bridge, which limits traffic based on wind speed. In moderate wind, box trucks and semis need an escort and must drive slower. In high wind, only passenger cars, vans, and empty pickups can cross. In severe wind, the bridge closes to everyone.
Falling ice and the yearly Labor Day Bridge Walk can also close the bridge. This does not make a UP move hard. We simply build an extra day into your schedule.
From the first walkthrough to the last piece of furniture in place, one experienced team handles your whole move.
Your Move Advisor walks through your home in person or on a video call and lists your things room by room. We base your fixed price on that list.
Pick the MoveView Package that fits your move, from Starter Move to White Glove. You pay only for the services you want.
Before moving day, we check parking permits, elevator reservations, HOA move-in hours, and any certificate of insurance your new Michigan building needs.
Our team packs and protects your belongings for the trip, based on the package you chose. You get an itemized list before anything goes on the truck.
After you sign the Bill of Lading, our team protects your floors and doorways and loads your things onto the truck.
Most New Jersey to Michigan moves arrive in two to five days. We confirm your delivery window in writing.
At your new Michigan home, our team unloads, puts your furniture back together, sets each piece where you want it, and takes away packing materials if you ask.
We deliver to every community in both peninsulas of Michigan, with frequent service to a wide range of destinations. As one of Michigan’s best movers and a trusted Michigan moving company, we serve Metro Detroit, including Detroit, Royal Oak, Birmingham, Troy, Novi, Northville, Farmington Hills, Dearborn, and Grosse Pointe, which is typically about 615 miles from Ridgefield, NJ.
Ann Arbor and the broader Washtenaw County area, which includes Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti, Saline, Dexter, and Chelsea, are about 600 miles away.
In Mid-Michigan, we regularly move households to Lansing, East Lansing, Okemos, Jackson, and Flint, which are roughly 640 to 680 miles from our origin. West Michigan destinations such as Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Holland, Muskegon, and Grand Haven fall in the 690 to 760 mile range.
Northern Michigan moves, including Traverse City, Petoskey, Charlevoix, and Gaylord, are typically 830 to 880 miles out. For the Upper Peninsula, our crews deliver to Marquette, Escanaba, Sault Ste. Marie, and Houghton, with distances ranging from approximately 950 to 1,050 miles from Ridgefield.
Two of these regions carry planning consequences worth naming. West Michigan and Northern Michigan sit inside the lake-effect belt, so a winter delivery there is quoted differently from a winter delivery to Ann Arbor. And every Upper Peninsula move crosses the Mackinac Bridge, which means a wind contingency belongs in the schedule, not in the apology.
Moving of America prepares your NJ to Michigan moving estimate from a detailed inventory of your household goods, packing needs, and access at both addresses. Your written binding estimate identifies the services included so you can compare costs before booking.
The agreed price applies to the inventory and services listed in your estimate. If you add items or request additional services, discuss any price changes and document them before the work begins.
Your delivery window depends on your Michigan destination, shipment size, access, weather, and scheduling. Confirm the pickup and delivery dates in writing with your move coordinator. Upper Peninsula deliveries may need additional time for distance and Mackinac Bridge conditions.
Over our decades of caring for our customers’ valuables, we’ve learned that not every move is the same. That’s why we offer flexible moving packages so you can get exactly what you need and nothing you don’t.
Inventory volume: the number and size of items, which is why we survey rather than quote by phone.
Packing scope: full pack, partial pack, or fragile-only.
Destination region: a Detroit delivery and a Marquette delivery are roughly 400 miles apart within the same state.
Access at the destination: driveway surface, road maintenance, turnaround room, and whether a shuttle is required for the last leg.
Season: a March through May delivery may require an all-season routing or a split load; a December delivery into the snow belt may require a contingency date.
Storage-in-transit: if your closing dates do not align.
Specialty items: piano, fine art, wine, antiques, gym equipment.
A non-binding estimate is a forecast. Federal rules cap what a carrier can collect at delivery at 110 percent of the estimate, with the balance due within thirty days, but 110 percent of a long-haul number is real money you did not plan for.
A binding estimate is a contract. The price is set at signing and does not move because the load weighed more than someone guessed. On a route this long, that difference is the difference between a budget and a hope. Moving of America issues binding estimates.
As an FMCSA-licensed interstate carrier USDOT #1601312, MC #592337, Moving of America explains your moving documents and available shipment protection before your interstate move:
A note on Michigan licensing. The Michigan Public Service Commission licenses household goods movers operating within Michigan. Your move begins in New Jersey and crosses state lines, so the FMCSA governs it federally under 49 CFR Part 375.
A Michigan-only carrier without active federal authority cannot lawfully carry your goods out of New Jersey, so the credentials to ask any bidder for on this route are the USDOT and MC numbers. For interstate movers from New Jersey to Michigan, these credentials are essential.
The drive is roughly 615 road miles to Detroit, a single driving day under federal hours-of-service limits. Delivery to the Lower Peninsula is typically two to four business days from load, with an additional day for Upper Peninsula destinations. Ask any mover whether your shipment is consolidated with other households, because that is what turns a two-day drive into a nine-day delivery.
Frost laws are Michigan’s seasonal weight restrictions. As roads thaw each spring, MDOT and county road commissions legally reduce how much weight a truck may carry:, 25 percent on concrete pavement and 35 percent on asphalt on routes designated seasonal, and cap vehicles over 10,000 pounds at 35 miles per hour on those roads. March, April, and May are automatically reduced-loading months under state law. A spring delivery is planned on all-season routes, or with a shuttle for the last leg.
Usually yes, with planning. Michigan has one of the largest unpaved and privately maintained road networks in the country, concentrated around the inland lakes. We ask about the last half-mile during the survey: surface, width, clearance, and turnaround. If a shuttle is needed, it goes into the binding estimate before you sign, not onto an invoice after we arrive.
Yes. Plan it as its own transit leg rather than a longer Detroit run; Marquette sits roughly 450 miles north of Detroit. Every UP delivery crosses the Mackinac Bridge, which restricts high-profile vehicles to escorted 20-mph crossings in sustained winds of 35 to 49 mph and closes to trucks entirely above that speed. We build a contingency day into UP schedules.
Not inherently, but the answer depends on where in Michigan. The lake-effect belts along the west and north of the state-, Grand Rapids, Muskegon, Traverse City, and much of the UP-, get more snow than Detroit or Ann Arbor dramatically on the same day. A November through February delivery into those areas should include a contingency date, and storage-in-transit covers the gap if a window has to shift.
A carrier. Moving of America holds active federal operating authority under USDOT #1601312 and MC #592337 and moves your goods on our own equipment with our own crews. A broker sells your job to whichever carrier bids lowest, which is how a company you have never spoken to ends up in your driveway six hundred miles from home.
It exempts your primary Michigan home from the 18-mill local school operating tax, and it is not automatic; you must file Form 2368 with your city or township assessor. Filing on or before June 1 covers that year’s summer and winter levies; after June 1 through November 1 covers the winter levy only. The previous owner’s exemption does not carry over. We mention it because New Jersey buyers have no reason to know it exists, and missing the date costs a full year.
Storage-in-transit bridges it. Your goods stay inventoried in our climate-controlled Ridgefield facility and are delivered when your new home is ready. On a six-hundred-mile route, this is common; the two closings rarely land on the same day.
Tell us what you are moving, where it is going, and when. We will survey the household, plan the route around the season, and put a binding number in writing, so the price you agree to is the price you pay. For a smooth relocation, our full-service movers NJ to Michigan handle every detail

Moving of America has operated from Ridgefield, New Jersey, since 2007, moving households across state lines under federal authority as a licensed carrier, never as a broker. On the Michigan corridor, that means one truck, one crew, and one accountable company for all 615 miles.
It also means planning the route around the season you are actually moving in. Frost laws in the spring. The snow belt in the winter. A bridge with a wind policy if you are going north. These are not obstacles. They are the schedule, and knowing them is the difference between a delivery date and a delivery window.
Moving of America is Accredited by the Better Business Bureau with an A+ rating reflecting our commitment to trust and customer satisfaction. We follow strict ethical business practices to ensure reliable and transparent moving services.

Proud member of the Chamber of Commerce, supporting professional standards and local business growth. Our membership reflects our dedication to credibility, networking, and community involvement.
