We chose Moving of America because of the good reviews, Joey the project manager was great, our local NJ pickup experience was genuinely excellent.. crew was professional, efficient, careful with our belongings, and overall gave us confidence that we had chosen the right company for our interstate move.

Unfortunately, the interstate portion of the move completely ruined that experience.

What we later discovered is that interstate moves are clearly not handled the same way as their local operations, despite being led to believe the move would remain within their own team. Once our shipment left NJ, communication, accountability, and overall professionalism changed.

By that point, Moving of America had already collected the majority of the payment, while the remaining balance was due to the company handling the delivery.

At delivery, the driver who was contracted out called me and said he didn’t think he could get into the neighborhood and that he would have to go and get a shuttle. I asked him how many guys he had, he indicated 2.. I said why don’t we use my own smaller moving truck instead, and the driver confirmed and to meet him a mile from our house with our truck.

Only after we arrived at the transfer point, no helpers were there- only the driver and at that point, we were informed for the first time that because we used our own truck, delivery labor was cancelled entirely. This was never disclosed beforehand. No revised agreement or change in scope was provided or signed. We were suddenly left responsible for unloading, unwrapping, and moving an entire household into our home ourselves after arriving in our new state only hours earlier with two young children.

The driver would not transfer the belongings into our truck until payment was made, despite the agreed delivery services no longer being performed as originally contracted.

Because everything remained wrapped at the transfer point, there was no realistic ability to inspect our belongings for damage there. After completing the move ourselves and removing the wrapping inside the home, before having to return all of the moving blankets because the driver said MofA would charge him if he didn’t return all of them, we discovered damage to a dresser and mirror.

What has been most disappointing is how the situation was handled afterward. Our move took place in February, and after more than a month of detailed back-and-forth communication attempting to resolve this professionally, the company ultimately stopped responding altogether. Multiple requests for the recorded phone call from the day of delivery were ignored. Formal complaints were filed with the Better Business Bureau and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, yet even after those filings there was still no meaningful effort to resolve the situation.

The only offer ever made was a $300 “goodwill” payment intended to cover both the damaged items and the significant delivery issues. Within the release documents for their “goodwill” offer you essentially waive your rights from later pursuing any public reviews related to your dispute and the company is not deemed responsible for anything, which is ironic because no responsibility was taken anyway. They provided no willingness to reasonably negotiate, no meaningful counteroffer, and no acknowledgment of the fact that the contracted delivery services were never actually completed.

This review is not being written simply because issues occurred during a move — things happen stuff can break. It is being written because of the lack of transparency, the last-minute change in delivery execution, the refusal to provide requested documentation, and the complete lack of accountability once the interstate portion began.

The local NJ team was genuinely very good, which honestly makes this even more disappointing. If you are considering Moving of America for an interstate move I genuinely hope your experience is much better then ours because our interstate experience was very different from what was represented upfront.

    Raleigh Movers

Moving of America is a fully licensed interstate carrier and one of the leading New Jersey to Raleigh movers, serving the corridor from New Jersey to Raleigh, North Carolina.

Covering approximately 560 miles via the New Jersey Turnpike South to I-95 South to I-85 South through Durham, or I-95 to I-40 West directly into Raleigh, this is Moving of America’s fastest long-distance route, with a standard transit time of 2 business days. Our team provides COI documentation for downtown Raleigh high-rises, coordinates Raleigh Parking permits for urban deliveries, manages canopy-aware vehicle staging for historic neighborhoods like Hayes Barton and Five Points, and delivers corporate relocation–compatible binding estimates for households moving from New Jersey’s pharma and tech corridor to Research Triangle Park. We are also recognized as a top New Jersey to Raleigh moving company for both residential and commercial moves.

Why Raleigh Is Drawing Households from New Jersey at Record Pace

Raleigh’s appeal is no surprise to those following talent trends. The Research Triangle, anchored by NC State University, Duke University, and UNC-Chapel Hill, and surrounding the 7,000-acre Research Triangle Park, has long attracted northeastern talent, but the pace has accelerated in recent years.

In 2024, North Carolina welcomed over 139,000 net in-migrants, the highest in the Southeast, with Charlotte and Raleigh accounting for over 40% of those arrivals. Once quietly significant, Raleigh now openly competes with major coastal metros for tech and life sciences talent and is increasingly winning.

The NJ-to-Raleigh corridor is distinct. New Jersey is home to a world-leading pharmaceutical and biotech cluster, with names like Merck, Johnson & Johnson, and Pfizer anchoring the Route 1 and Route 9 corridors. On the other end, Research Triangle Park hosts global employers including GlaxoSmithKline, Red Hat, Cisco, Fidelity, Lenovo, and the EPA’s largest campus. Apple is building a new campus, and IBM has maintained a major presence for decades. This is not random migration; it’s a documented transfer of skilled labor along I-95, connecting two innovation clusters at record speed.

Most households making this move know where they’re going and why. They have job offers, relocation packages, and closing dates on properties in Cary, North Hills, Brier Creek, or Raleigh’s historic neighborhoods. They need professional New Jersey-to-Raleigh movers who are as precise and prepared as they are. If you’re looking to hire movers for a move from New Jersey to Raleigh, our team is equipped to handle every detail.

What Moving of America Knows About Raleigh That Most Movers Don’t

Raleigh may look simple on a map, a mid-sized, livable Southern city. But beneath the surface are operational complexities: historic streets too narrow for modern trucks, a unique city parking permit system, luxury high-rises with strict elevator windows, and gated golf communities with their own access rules.

Hayes Barton and Five Points: National Register Streets and Staged Delivery

Hayes Barton, Raleigh’s most prestigious historic neighborhood, is a National Register of Historic Places district with winding, early-20th-century streets. St. Mary’s Street, Whitaker Mill Road, and the residential connectors off Glenwood Avenue and Fairview Road are all beautiful and challenging for large moving vehicles.

The Five Points Historic Districts, Hayes Barton, Bloomsbury, Georgetown, Vanguard Park, and Roanoke Park form a cluster of early streetcar suburbs northwest of downtown. The Colonial and Craftsman architecture and narrow streets were designed for early automobiles, not 53-foot trailers.

Moving of America assesses every Hayes Barton or Five Points address before confirming a delivery plan. Where full-trailer access is limited, we stage the main truck on the nearest accessible street and use a smaller vehicle to complete the delivery. Our experienced furniture movers from New Jersey to Raleigh handle specialty items with care. This approach is standard for these neighborhoods and is included in your binding estimate from the start.

Historic Oakwood, east of downtown, presents similar challenges, narrow Victorian streets, and 1870s homes. Our solution is the same: pre-move address assessment, staged delivery, and specialty handling for heirloom furniture.

Downtown Raleigh and Raleigh Parking: The City’s Moving Van Permit System

Every city has its own moving van permit process. In Raleigh, commercial vehicle street permits are issued by Raleigh Parking, the city’s designated department for moving vans.

This is crucial for downtown Raleigh, Glenwood South, North Hills, and any address where the truck must occupy public street space. Moving of America initiates the Raleigh Parking permit process before your delivery date. If your address has a private loading area, a permit is typically unnecessary. Where public street access is needed, the permit is non-negotiable.

Downtown’s new residential towers in Smoky Hollow, the Warehouse District, and along Fayetteville Street require an additional Certificate of Insurance (COI) naming the building as insured, plus a reserved elevator or dock window. We coordinate all three (permit, COI, elevator/dock reservation) when booking downtown moves.

North Hills Midtown: Luxury High-Rise Logistics and Elevator Reservations

North Hills, now Raleigh’s “Midtown,” is a walkable district with luxury towers, high-end retail, and a growing number of corporate offices. It’s a top destination for out-of-state families, especially from the Northeast.
Residential towers in North Hills require the same protocols as those in downtown: COI, a reserved freight elevator, and sometimes a reserved loading dock or parking space. Elevator windows are typically four-hour blocks on weekdays. Moving of America confirms these details with building management before your move.
Surrounding single-family neighborhoods do not require permits or elevator coordination. We handle both profiles seamlessly.

Brier Creek Country Club and the RTP Corridor: Gated Community and Move-In Windows

Brier Creek is the main suburb for RTP employees, offering a 10–15-minute commute to RTP and the airport. The gated Country Club section requires advance coordination with the HOA and a COI before entry. Move-in times may be limited to weekdays. We handle these requirements during booking, not at the last minute.

Nearby apartment complexes and townhomes have their own move-in schedules, often requiring a reserved loading zone and notification to property management. We confirm all requirements in advance to ensure smooth delivery.

NJ to Raleigh Corporate Relocations: What Moving of America Provides

A significant portion of NJ-to-Raleigh moves are driven by employer sponsorship, including job offers, transfer packages, and strategic expansions by major New Jersey-based companies. These corporate relocations are often managed with precision, timetables, and compliance requirements set by both the employer and the destination property. Whether you’re working with an in-house HR team or a third-party relocation management company, there are key elements that distinguish a successful corporate move from a standard household relocation. Moving of America is experienced in meeting these expectations at every stage.

The NJ to Raleigh Step-by-Step Moving Process

How Much Does a Move from NJ to Raleigh Cost?

At approximately 560 miles, NJ to Raleigh is our shortest major long-distance corridor, providing customers with both time and cost advantages compared to longer interstate routes.

However, the final New Jersey to Raleigh moving cost is determined by several key factors, including the total shipment weight, the complexity of access at both origin and destination (such as elevator usage, street staging, permits, or HOA requirements), the seasonality of your move (with peak demand occurring in summer), any specialty inventory like lab equipment or high-value electronics, the documentation needs of corporate relocations, and whether storage-in-transit is required.

Pricing also varies by home size: Studio or 1BR moves are primarily driven by weight and access type; 2BR moves are driven by weight and building logistics; 3BR moves are driven by weight and specialty items; and 4BR+ moves are driven by weight and estate inventory. For an affordable New Jersey to Raleigh movers experience, we offer transparent rates tailored to your needs.

Moving of America Crew performing a Local Move

What Drives the NJ to Raleigh Price

    • Shipment weight: The main cost driver. The total weight of your household goods determines the bulk of your moving cost on this corridor. Heavier shipments, such as those from multi-bedroom homes, are priced higher than smaller, lighter loads. Accurate inventory at the estimate stage ensures transparent, binding pricing.

    • Building access: Different logistics (elevator, staging, gated access) are priced at the time of the quote. Factors such as elevator reservations in high-rises, staging requirements in historic districts, or gated-entry protocols in communities like Brier Creek can affect both the complexity and cost of your move. We assess access at both origin and destination to account for all logistics in advance.

    • Season: Summer (June–August) brings peak demand. Book 4–6 weeks early. Demand for moving services spikes during the summer, especially as RTP employers and local schools align start dates. Securing your booking well ahead of time locks in availability and protects your pricing from seasonal surges.

    • Specialty inventory: Home office and high-value items require custom documentation. Items such as lab equipment, sensitive electronics, and specialized home office setups often need extra care, packing materials, or inventory documentation. These details are discussed and priced during your estimate to ensure everything is protected and accounted for.

    • Corporate relocation: If employer-sponsored, notify us for proper documentation. Corporate moves may require specific paperwork, timeline commitments, and direct communication with relocation management companies. Alerting us early allows us to produce binding estimates and documentation in the format your employer or relocation provider needs. We provide New Jersey to Raleigh relocation services for both individuals and companies, ensuring every requirement is met.

    • Storage-in-transit: Priced into the binding estimate as needed. If your new home isn’t ready or if there’s a gap between closing and move-in, we offer storage solutions in the Raleigh area. Storage-in-transit is quoted up front and can be seamlessly coordinated as part of your relocation.

Why a Binding Estimate Matters Even on a Short Run

Even on a 560-mile route, a binding estimate protects you. Non-binding estimates can change at delivery. Moving of America provides written binding estimates for every interstate move; your price is set when you sign. For corporate moves, this is also the documentation your HR or relocation coordinator requires. Book New Jersey to Raleigh movers with confidence, knowing your estimate is guaranteed from the start.

When Is the Best Time to Move from NJ to Raleigh?

Raleigh’s moving calendar is driven by year-round employer activity and a mild climate. There’s no winter weather risk or hurricane season. The main factor is demand:

    • Sep – Nov: Post-summer, mild weather, strong availability. Best for most moves. Book 4–6 weeks ahead.
    • Mar – May: Spring rebound and early corporate relocations. Good availability in March, tighter by late April. Book 5–6 weeks ahead.
    • Jun – Aug: Peak demand from RTP employers starts, and school moves. Book 4–6 weeks ahead as soon as your offer is accepted.
    • Dec – Feb: Low demand, best pricing, and strong availability. No weather risk. Great for non-mandated moves.

Your Federal Rights on Your NJ to Raleigh Move

FEDERAL COMPLIANCE DISCLOSURE: Required on All Interstate Moves (49 CFR §375.213)

All interstate moves are regulated by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). Moving of America is a licensed carrier (USDOT #1601312, MC #592337) that can be verified at safer.fmcsa.dot.gov.

    • Your written binding estimate is the total charge for the agreed services and cannot be increased for included services at delivery.
    • A Bill of Lading is issued at pickup and is your legal contract. Never sign a blank or incomplete Bill of Lading.
    • You have the right to be present at the weigh-in and to request a re-weigh before delivery.
    • Valuation coverage is not the same as insurance. We explain both before your move.

Moving into a condo can get complicated with scheduling and elevators, but they handled it well. A bit of waiting here and there, but nothing out of the ordinary.
