We chose Moving of America because of the good reviews, Joey the project manager was great, our local NJ pickup experience was genuinely excellent.. crew was professional, efficient, careful with our belongings, and overall gave us confidence that we had chosen the right company for our interstate move.

Unfortunately, the interstate portion of the move completely ruined that experience.

What we later discovered is that interstate moves are clearly not handled the same way as their local operations, despite being led to believe the move would remain within their own team. Once our shipment left NJ, communication, accountability, and overall professionalism changed.

By that point, Moving of America had already collected the majority of the payment, while the remaining balance was due to the company handling the delivery.

At delivery, the driver who was contracted out called me and said he didn’t think he could get into the neighborhood and that he would have to go and get a shuttle. I asked him how many guys he had, he indicated 2.. I said why don’t we use my own smaller moving truck instead, and the driver confirmed and to meet him a mile from our house with our truck.

Only after we arrived at the transfer point, no helpers were there- only the driver and at that point, we were informed for the first time that because we used our own truck, delivery labor was cancelled entirely. This was never disclosed beforehand. No revised agreement or change in scope was provided or signed. We were suddenly left responsible for unloading, unwrapping, and moving an entire household into our home ourselves after arriving in our new state only hours earlier with two young children.

The driver would not transfer the belongings into our truck until payment was made, despite the agreed delivery services no longer being performed as originally contracted.

Because everything remained wrapped at the transfer point, there was no realistic ability to inspect our belongings for damage there. After completing the move ourselves and removing the wrapping inside the home, before having to return all of the moving blankets because the driver said MofA would charge him if he didn’t return all of them, we discovered damage to a dresser and mirror.

What has been most disappointing is how the situation was handled afterward. Our move took place in February, and after more than a month of detailed back-and-forth communication attempting to resolve this professionally, the company ultimately stopped responding altogether. Multiple requests for the recorded phone call from the day of delivery were ignored. Formal complaints were filed with the Better Business Bureau and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, yet even after those filings there was still no meaningful effort to resolve the situation.

The only offer ever made was a $300 “goodwill” payment intended to cover both the damaged items and the significant delivery issues. Within the release documents for their “goodwill” offer you essentially waive your rights from later pursuing any public reviews related to your dispute and the company is not deemed responsible for anything, which is ironic because no responsibility was taken anyway. They provided no willingness to reasonably negotiate, no meaningful counteroffer, and no acknowledgment of the fact that the contracted delivery services were never actually completed.

This review is not being written simply because issues occurred during a move — things happen stuff can break. It is being written because of the lack of transparency, the last-minute change in delivery execution, the refusal to provide requested documentation, and the complete lack of accountability once the interstate portion began.

The local NJ team was genuinely very good, which honestly makes this even more disappointing. If you are considering Moving of America for an interstate move I genuinely hope your experience is much better then ours because our interstate experience was very different from what was represented upfront.

Why Tucson Is the Top Destination for NJ Relocators

    movers in Hawthorne

Tucson pulls a different New Jersey mover than Phoenix does. The University of Arizona and a deep aerospace and defense economy, Raytheon employs more than 11,000 people here, and Davis-Monthan Air Force Base is one of the city’s largest employers, driving a steady stream of faculty, researchers, engineers, and students relocating on an academic and contract calendar, often seeking the best Tucson movers or professional movers in Tucson for a seamless experience.

The second driver is cost and pace. Tucson has a cost of living well below the national average and is noticeably cheaper than Phoenix, with a median home price around $360,000, modest Pima County property taxes, and no Arizona tax on Social Security. That combination draws retirees and Northeast cost-of-living exiles who want desert sun without a big-metro price tag, and who often seek affordable Tucson movers or residential movers in Tucson.

Whatever the reason, the move crosses a state line, which makes it an interstate move under federal law. That changes how the job must be licensed, estimated, and insured, and it is where the risk hides. The fear we hear most is paying a deposit to a middleman who never owned a truck, only to watch the price climb at delivery. Moving of America removes that by operating as the carrier on your move, the company that owns the trucks, employs the crew, and signs the binding estimate.

5 Key Reasons New Jersey Families and Businesses Choose Moving of America for the Tucson Route

A move from New Jersey to Tucson is not a job you want to hand to the wrong company. Anyone who has relocated long-distance has heard the same warnings, a crew that showed up hours late, furniture that arrived scratched, or a final bill padded with charges nobody mentioned at quote time. We built Moving of America so Northeast families heading to the Old Pueblo would not have to gamble on any of that. Here is how that plays out on the ground.

    1. We Actually Run the New Jersey to Tucson Corridor

We are not a franchise passing your shipment to whatever crew is free that week. Moving of America is a New Jersey carrier that has moved households across the country for more than two decades. We know what a 2,450-mile haul down the I-40/I-10 corridor demands, from securing a load for days on the road to timing a foothills delivery around a custom desert street. That is operational knowledge, not a sales script, and it is what keeps a cross-country move from unraveling in transit.

Yes. We manage full relocations from anywhere in New Jersey to Tucson and the surrounding communities, including the Catalina Foothills, Oro Valley, Sam Hughes, and the campus-area neighborhoods. Wherever you start in the Garden State, we have a crew ready to get you there.
We are a New Jersey company, plain and simple. No broker, no franchise, no handing your move to the lowest bidder. Book your Tucson move with us and you get our own trucks, our own trained crew, and people who live and work in New Jersey.

    2. A Binding Price That Holds From Ridgefield to Tucson

The worst part of long-distance moving is the quote that changes at the door. That bait-and-switch is common on interstate routes, and it is the complaint we hear most from people who tried someone else first. We do it differently: every interstate move gets a written, binding estimate. No fuel surcharge dropped on you at delivery, no long-carry or shuttle fee you never heard about. The number you sign in New Jersey is the number you pay in Arizona.

It depends on total shipment weight, distance, and the services you choose, packing, storage, a foothills shuttle. We walk through all of it before you book, so nothing surprises you when your goods reach Tucson. Most 1–4 bedroom households land in the $4,000–$10,500 range.
Never. A binding estimate exists precisely so extra charges cannot appear later. Labor, transport, equipment, the full job is in the figure you approve up front.

    3. Every Service Under One Roof, Coast to Coast

Plenty of long-distance movers just load a trailer and drive. We handle the whole relocation, packing and unpacking, furniture disassembly and reassembly, loading and unloading, and storage-in-transit when your Tucson move-in date does not line up with your New Jersey departure. A studio near campus or a full household into the foothills, we have the crew and equipment for it.

Full-service long-distance moving, meaning we can take you from packing a kitchen in New Jersey to reassembling furniture in your Tucson home. That covers residential and commercial moves, packing and unpacking, disassembly and reassembly, loading and unloading, and short- or long-term storage.
Absolutely. Many customers add packing on a long haul because it removes the biggest source of stress before move day. Our team brings the materials and gives fragile pieces the climate-aware wrapping a 2,450-mile desert route calls for.

    4. A Crew You Can Trust With Everything You Own

This weighs more than most people realize when comparing quotes. On a cross-country move, one crew handles everything you own for days at a stretch. Every person on our team clears a background check and completes professional training before they ever work a job. Moving of America is a fully licensed interstate carrier (USDOT #1601312, MC #592337 ) carrying comprehensive liability and cargo coverage on every move, protection that runs from the first box loaded in New Jersey to the last one placed in Tucson.

Yes, fully. We hold the required state and federal interstate authority and carry liability and cargo insurance on every job. Your belongings are covered for the entire New Jersey to Tucson journey.
Every one of them. We do not use day labor or subcontracted crews for our own operations. Everyone who handles your shipment has been vetted and trained by us, because you are trusting us with your whole household across the country.

    5. Our Track Record Speaks Louder Than We Can

We could talk about ourselves all day, but the reviews say it better. Moving of America holds hundreds of verified five-star ratings from families, renters, seniors, and business owners, including many who trusted us with long-distance relocations. Customers come back when they move again and send us to friends and family. That kind of repeat business is earned one honest move at a time.

We are proud of the feedback, and it keeps circling the same points, we arrived on time, we protected the belongings, and the price matched the quote exactly. That consistency is what we work to hold on every move, no matter the distance.
It comes down to doing the fundamentals well. We show up when we say we will, we treat your things with respect, and we do not spring charges at delivery. Those should not be rare in this industry, but they are, which is why our customers keep coming back and keep referring us.

What Moving of America Knows About Tucson That Most Movers Don’t

A Tucson move turns on three things a New Jersey household won’t see coming, and none of them is the distance. We plan for all three before your truck leaves Ridgefield.

The University Calendar Sets the Demand Curve

Tucson is a college town, and the University of Arizona academic calendar drives the city’s busiest moving windows. Late July through early September, move-in season for faculty, grad students, and the rental turnover around campus neighborhoods like Sam Hughes and West University, is when trucks, crews, and short-term storage get tight.

If your move is tied to a semester start, the lead time matters more than on a typical route. We book academic-calendar moves early and use storage-in-transit when a closing or lease start lands after your New Jersey departure date, so a campus-season crunch doesn’t strand your shipment.

Elevation Decides Your Tucson Experience and the Approach

Tucson is not a flat desert. The city climbs from the valley floor into the Catalina Foothills and toward Mount Lemmon, where temperatures can run 30 degrees cooler than downtown. Affluent foothills neighborhoods and Oro Valley to the northwest sit at higher elevation against the Santa Catalina Mountains, on winding desert-view streets that a full-size truck has to be routed for.

Most NJ-to-Tucson loads arrive via I-10 across the southern stretch of the corridor, a different approach than the I-17 descent into Phoenix. We plan the final climb into a foothills or Oro Valley address in advance, including a shuttle from a staging point when a custom hillside street can’t take a 53-foot trailer.

Pima County, Not Maricopa Sets the Residency Rules

Tucson sits in Pima County, and new-resident logistics differ from Phoenix in the details. Arizona requires you to swap your driver’s license and register your vehicle soon after moving, and Pima County is one of only two Arizona counties that require a vehicle emissions test for registration.

If you’re shipping a car alongside your household goods, common on a 2,450-mile move, most families fly rather than drive; build the Pima County emissions test and registration into your first few weeks. We can coordinate auto transport with your household shipment so both arrive on a schedule that fits the checklist, working with licensed movers in Tucson or insured movers in Tucson for added peace of mind.

The NJ to Tucson Moving Step-by-Step Process

    NJ commercial moving services
We survey your New Jersey home in person or over video and build a household goods inventory. Interstate moves are priced by weight and distance, so an accurate inventory is what makes the next step honest. As experienced NJ to Tucson movers, we also confirm whether your move is tied to the University calendar.
We plan the I-10 approach and any access to the foothills or Oro Valley, confirm timing against the season and the academic calendar, and lock in your price with a written, binding estimate. A binding estimate guarantees the price will not increase after you sign it, the strongest protection for a long route.
Our crew packs and labels your belongings against the inventory list, with climate-aware protection for items that the desert dryness and summer heat can damage. Each item is logged so nothing is unaccounted for across 2,450 miles, using packing and moving services in Tucson for optimal care.
Your goods travel the southwestern corridor; most loads run I-40 west through Oklahoma City and Albuquerque, then drop south on I-10 into Tucson, roughly 2,450 miles. Transit typically runs 5 to 8 business days, with winter weather over the high country as the main seasonal variable.
We deliver on your schedule, scheduling summer unloads for the cooler early morning and shuttling the final climb into the foothills when a street requires it, then unload against the inventory and reassemble furniture we disassembled. If your move-out and move-in dates don’t line up, storage-in-transit holds your goods between them.

How Much Does a Move from NJ to Tucson Cost?

An interstate move is priced based on the total shipment weight, distance, and the specific services chosen. For moves from New Jersey to Tucson, a studio or one-bedroom apartment typically takes 5–7 business days in transit with a binding, locked-in price. Two-bedroom moves also average 5–7 business days. Three-bedroom and larger (four-bedroom or more) relocations generally require 6–8 business days, and all are quoted with a binding estimate that secures your price before move day. Whether you need apartment movers in Tucson or long-distance movers from NJ to Tucson, your actual binding estimate will reflect your unique inventory and schedule.

What Affects the NJ to Tucson Price

Weight is the primary driver; every additional thousand pounds adds real cost, so decluttering before the move pays off. Timing and access matter here, too. A peak academic-season move books tighter, and a foothills or Oro Valley delivery that needs a shuttle up a custom street adds coordination time, and an honest estimate accounts for up front.

Why a Binding Estimate Protects You on Interstate Moves

A non-binding estimate can be revised upward at delivery, the “price doubled” scenario that burns long-distance movers. A binding estimate locks the price before move day and cannot increase after you sign. Moving of America provides written binding estimates on interstate moves, so the figure you approve in New Jersey is the figure you pay in Tucson. For added security, choose a licensed interstate movers NJ to Tucson company.

Your Federal Rights on Your NJ to Tucson Move

    Hawthorne movers packing a house

As an FMCSA-licensed interstate carrier (USDOT #1601312, MC #592337), Moving of America is required to provide every customer with specific federal protections:

    • The FMCSA “Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move” booklet is required by 49 CFR §375.213.
    • A written binding estimate before your move date.
    • A Bill of Lading on move day is your legal contract and receipt for the shipment.

You can verify our operating authority directly at safer.fmcsa.dot.gov by searching USDOT #1601312. A licensed carrier holds this authority in its own name; a broker does not.

Moving into a condo can get complicated with scheduling and elevators, but they handled it well. A bit of waiting here and there, but nothing out of the ordinary.

During moving day, office personnel called me multiple times to check in on the status of the move to make sure everything was running efficiently and smoothly.

Frequently Asked Questions About Moving from NJ to Tucson

Transit typically takes 5 to 8 business days over roughly 2,450 miles via the I-40/I-10 corridor. The exact window depends on shipment weight, scheduling, and season. Your binding estimate states the agreed delivery spread.
Most 1–4 bedroom households fall in the $4,000–$10,500 range, priced by total weight, distance, and services. The only figure that governs your move is the written binding estimate, which locks your price before move day.
Late July through early September, tied to the University of Arizona calendar. If your move lines up with a semester start, book early; crews and short-term storage tighten during campus move-in season.
Yes. These higher-elevation neighborhoods have winding, custom desert streets that a full-size truck has to be routed for. We plan the approach in advance and shuttle the final stretch from a staging point when a street can’t take a large trailer.
Moving of America is a licensed interstate carrier (USDOT #1601312, MC #592337), not a broker. We own the trucks, employ the crew, and sign the binding estimate. Verify our authority at safer.fmcsa.dot.gov.
Yes. Storage-in-transit holds your household goods between your move-out and move-in dates, which is common when a closing slips or a campus-season lease start doesn’t line up with your departure from New Jersey.
