We chose Moving of America because of the good reviews, Joey the project manager was great, our local NJ pickup experience was genuinely excellent.. crew was professional, efficient, careful with our belongings, and overall gave us confidence that we had chosen the right company for our interstate move.

Unfortunately, the interstate portion of the move completely ruined that experience.

What we later discovered is that interstate moves are clearly not handled the same way as their local operations, despite being led to believe the move would remain within their own team. Once our shipment left NJ, communication, accountability, and overall professionalism changed.

By that point, Moving of America had already collected the majority of the payment, while the remaining balance was due to the company handling the delivery.

At delivery, the driver who was contracted out called me and said he didn’t think he could get into the neighborhood and that he would have to go and get a shuttle. I asked him how many guys he had, he indicated 2.. I said why don’t we use my own smaller moving truck instead, and the driver confirmed and to meet him a mile from our house with our truck.

Only after we arrived at the transfer point, no helpers were there- only the driver and at that point, we were informed for the first time that because we used our own truck, delivery labor was cancelled entirely. This was never disclosed beforehand. No revised agreement or change in scope was provided or signed. We were suddenly left responsible for unloading, unwrapping, and moving an entire household into our home ourselves after arriving in our new state only hours earlier with two young children.

The driver would not transfer the belongings into our truck until payment was made, despite the agreed delivery services no longer being performed as originally contracted.

Because everything remained wrapped at the transfer point, there was no realistic ability to inspect our belongings for damage there. After completing the move ourselves and removing the wrapping inside the home, before having to return all of the moving blankets because the driver said MofA would charge him if he didn’t return all of them, we discovered damage to a dresser and mirror.

What has been most disappointing is how the situation was handled afterward. Our move took place in February, and after more than a month of detailed back-and-forth communication attempting to resolve this professionally, the company ultimately stopped responding altogether. Multiple requests for the recorded phone call from the day of delivery were ignored. Formal complaints were filed with the Better Business Bureau and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, yet even after those filings there was still no meaningful effort to resolve the situation.

The only offer ever made was a $300 “goodwill” payment intended to cover both the damaged items and the significant delivery issues. Within the release documents for their “goodwill” offer you essentially waive your rights from later pursuing any public reviews related to your dispute and the company is not deemed responsible for anything, which is ironic because no responsibility was taken anyway. They provided no willingness to reasonably negotiate, no meaningful counteroffer, and no acknowledgment of the fact that the contracted delivery services were never actually completed.

This review is not being written simply because issues occurred during a move — things happen stuff can break. It is being written because of the lack of transparency, the last-minute change in delivery execution, the refusal to provide requested documentation, and the complete lack of accountability once the interstate portion began.

The local NJ team was genuinely very good, which honestly makes this even more disappointing. If you are considering Moving of America for an interstate move I genuinely hope your experience is much better then ours because our interstate experience was very different from what was represented upfront.

Why Phoenix Is the Top Destination for NJ Relocators

    Movers in Maplewood

Phoenix pulls New Jersey households for reasons that show up on the first paycheck. Arizona’s flat 2.5 percent state income tax is one of the lowest in the country, compared with New Jersey’s progressive rate that tops out at over 10 percent, and the cost of living is roughly a quarter lower. For families and retirees alike, the math is the trigger.

The other drivers are sunshine and space, a fast-growing metro with new master-planned communities across Scottsdale, Mesa, Chandler, and Gilbert, and 300-plus days of sun. Local movers in Phoenix note that a retiree planning six months out and a family chasing a spring school-year start are running different clocks, and the trigger shapes the timeline.

Whatever the reason, the move crosses a state line, which makes it an interstate move under federal law. That changes how the job must be licensed, estimated, and insured, and it is where the risk hides. The fear we hear most is paying a deposit to a middleman who never owned a truck, only to watch the price climb at delivery. Moving of America removes that by operating as the carrier on your move, the company that owns the trucks, employs the crew, and signs the binding estimate.

5 Key Reasons Families and Businesses Trust Moving of America for Their New Jersey to Phoenix Move

Relocating from New Jersey to Phoenix is a big undertaking, and choosing the wrong long-distance mover can turn an already stressful move into a nightmare. Most people have heard the horror stories, crews that showed up late, belongings that arrived damaged, or surprise charges that were never mentioned when the quote was given. We built Moving of America because we believed families and businesses making the cross-country journey from New Jersey to Arizona deserved better. Here is what that commitment looks like in practice.

    1. We Know How to Handle the New Jersey to Phoenix Route

We are not a national brand with a call center in another state handing your move off to whichever crew happens to be available. Moving of America is a New Jersey company, built right here, that has been guiding families and businesses across the country for over 20 years. Our teams understand what a 2,400-mile haul from the Northeast to the Southwest actually requires, from securing your belongings for the long drive to coordinating delivery windows once you reach the Phoenix metro area. That kind of experience is not something you can fake, and it is exactly what keeps a long-distance move on schedule.

We do. Moving of America manages full long-distance relocations from anywhere in New Jersey to Phoenix and the surrounding Arizona communities, including Scottsdale, Mesa, Tempe, Chandler, and Glendale. Wherever you are starting from in the Garden State, we have a crew ready to get you there.
We are a local New Jersey company through and through. No franchise, no broker, no handing your move off to whoever is cheapest that day. When you book your New Jersey to Phoenix move with us, you get our own trained crew, our own trucks, and people who actually live and work in New Jersey.

    2. Honest, Upfront Pricing on Every Long-Distance Move

Nobody likes getting one number over the phone and then seeing something completely different on the final invoice. That bait-and-switch pricing is unfortunately common in the long-distance moving industry, and it is one of the biggest complaints we hear from customers who tried other companies before calling us. At Moving of America, every quote is transparent and detailed. No fuel surcharges sprung on you at the end. No stair fees or long-carry charges that were never mentioned. What we tell you upfront is what you pay, full stop.

The cost of a long-distance move to Phoenix depends on a few things, the size of your home, the number of boxes, the total weight, and whether you want packing help. We go over all of that with you before you book, so there are no surprises when your belongings arrive in Arizona.
Never. We are pretty straightforward about this because we know how frustrating it is to get hit with extra charges at delivery. The quote we give you covers everything, labor, transport, equipment, the whole job. Nothing gets added on at the end.

    3. Every Service You Need, All in One Place

A lot of long-distance movers just load a truck and drive it across the country. We do a lot more than that. Moving of America handles packing and unpacking, furniture disassembly and reassembly, loading and unloading, and storage if you need somewhere to keep your things during the transition between coasts. Whether you are relocating a one-bedroom apartment or moving an entire office out to the Phoenix area, we have the crew, the equipment, and the experience to handle it properly.

We offer full-service long-distance moving, which means we can take care of everything from packing your kitchen in New Jersey to reassembling your furniture in your new Phoenix home. Services include residential and commercial moving, packing and unpacking, furniture disassembly and reassembly, loading and unloading, and both short and long-term storage options.
Absolutely. A lot of our customers add packing to their long-distance move because it saves them a tremendous amount of stress in the days leading up to the move. Our team brings all the materials and handles everything carefully, including fragile items and anything that needs special wrapping for the long trip.

    4. You Can Actually Trust the People Handling Your Move

This matters more than most people think about when they are comparing moving quotes. You are trusting a crew with everything you own for a journey across the entire country. Every single person on our team goes through a background check and proper professional training before they ever step foot on a job. Moving of America is also fully licensed and carries comprehensive liability and cargo insurance on every move. That means you are protected from the moment we load your first box in New Jersey to the moment we set it down in Phoenix, which is not something every long-distance moving company can honestly say.

Yes, fully. We hold the required state and federal licensing for interstate moving and carry liability and cargo insurance on every job. Your belongings are covered for the entire journey from New Jersey to California.
Every time. We do not use day laborers or subcontractors. Everyone who handles your move has been background checked and trained by us. We take this seriously because we know you are trusting us with everything you own on a long journey.

    5. Our Reputation Does the Talking

We could write a lot about how great we are, but honestly the best proof is what our customers say. Moving of America has hundreds of verified five-star reviews on Google from real families, renters, seniors, and business owners, including many who trusted us with their long-distance relocations. People come back to us when they move again, and they refer us to their friends and family. That kind of loyalty does not happen by accident. It happens when a company consistently does what it says it will do.

We are really proud of our reviews. Thousands of customers have left us five-star ratings on Google, and the feedback consistently comes back to the same things, we showed up on time, we were careful with their belongings, and the price was exactly what they were told. That consistency is something we work hard to maintain on every move, no matter how far it goes.
Honestly, it comes down to doing the basics really well. We show up when we say we will, we treat your belongings with respect, and we do not hit you with surprise charges at the end. Those things should not be rare in this industry, but they are, and that is why our customers keep coming back and keep referring us to the people they care about.

What Moving of America Knows About Phoenix That Most Movers Don’t

A Phoenix move has three challenges a New Jersey household has never had to plan for, and none of them are the distance. Professional movers in Phoenix plan for all three before your truck leaves Ridgefield.

Summer Heat Changes How and When Your Goods Move

Phoenix routinely hits 110 to 115 degrees from June through September. A delivery scheduled for midday in July is brutal on the crew and risky for heat-sensitive items, so we schedule summer unloads for early morning before the heat peaks and brief every customer on climate-protected transit for electronics, art, candles, and wine.

There’s a second heat problem most movers never mention. New Jersey runs 60 to 80 percent humidity most of the year; Phoenix runs 10 to 30 percent. Wood furniture and antiques that spent decades in NJ humidity will dry out and can split in their first months in Arizona. We flag your vulnerable pieces and recommend a cool, slightly humidified acclimation space for the first 90 days.

    Master-Planned HOAs Have Move-In Rules a Truck Can’t Skip

Most Phoenix-area homes sit inside a master-planned community or HOA, Scottsdale, Chandler, Gilbert, and the master plans of the East and West Valley are almost entirely governed by one. Many require a gate code or guard clearance for the moving truck, set specific move-in hours, and charge a move-in or capital-contribution fee at closing.

Some communities and condo buildings also require a Certificate of Insurance from the mover before the truck is cleared. The governing CC&Rs are public record, filed with the Maricopa County Recorder, so the rules are knowable in advance. We confirm your community’s gate access, move-in window, and COI requirement during route planning, not at the gate on move day.

Becoming an Arizona Resident Has Its Own Checklist

Arizona requires new residents to swap their driver’s license and register their vehicle within a short window of moving. The catch most NJ transplants miss is that Maricopa County requires vehicle emissions testing, which essentially covers the entire Phoenix metro.

If you’re shipping a car alongside your household goods, which is common on a 2,400-mile move, most families fly instead of driving. Factor the emissions test and registration into your first few weeks. We can coordinate auto transport with your household shipment so both arrive on a schedule that fits that checklist.

The NJ to Phoenix Moving Step-by-Step Process

Moving of America Crew performing a Local Move
We survey your New Jersey home in person or over video and build a household goods inventory. Interstate moves are priced by weight and distance, so an accurate inventory is what makes the next step honest. This is also where we flag heat- and humidity-sensitive pieces.
We confirm your Phoenix community’s gate access, move-in window, and any COI requirement, plan transit timing around the season, and lock your price in a written binding estimate. A binding estimate guarantees the price cannot increase after you sign it, the strongest protection for a long route.

Our crew packs and labels your belongings against the inventory list, with climate-aware protection for the items that the desert can damage. Each item is logged so nothing is unaccounted for across 2,400 miles.

Your goods travel the well-established southwestern corridor, most loads run I-40 west through Oklahoma City and Albuquerque, then I-17 south into Phoenix, roughly 2,400 miles. Movers in Phoenix AZ report that transit typically runs 5 to 8 business days; winter weather over Flagstaff is the main seasonal variable on this route.

We deliver within your reserved HOA move-in window, scheduling summer unloads for the cool of early morning, then unloading against the inventory and reassembling the furniture we disassembled. If your move-out and move-in dates don’t line up, storage-in-transit holds your goods between them.

How Much Does a Move from NJ to Phoenix Cost?

An interstate move from New Jersey to Phoenix is priced based on the total shipment weight, the distance traveled, and the specific services you choose. While your individual binding estimate will determine the actual cost, typical transit times for this route are as follows:

    • Studio / 1 Bedroom: 5–7 business days
    • 2 Bedroom: 5–7 business days
    • 3 Bedroom: 6–8 business days
    • 4 Bedroom or larger: 6–8 business days

Your written binding estimate will clearly state your price and delivery window before your move begins. This protects you from any pricing surprises and ensures you know exactly what to expect on move day.

What Affects the NJ to Phoenix Price

Weight is the primary driver, and every additional thousand pounds adds real cost, so decluttering before the move pays off. Season matters here more than on most routes, as a summer move may warrant climate-protected transit, and a gated-community delivery with a tight move-in window adds coordination time, and an honest estimate accounts for up front. Affordable NJ to Phoenix movers and licensed interstate movers NJ to Phoenix can help you optimize your budget.

Why a Binding Estimate Protects You on Interstate Moves

A non-binding estimate can be revised upward at delivery, the “price doubled” scenario that burns long-distance movers. A binding estimate locks the price before move day and cannot increase after you sign. Moving of America provides written binding estimates on interstate moves, so the figure you approve in New Jersey is the figure you pay in Phoenix. For peace of mind, consider hiring professional and insured movers in Phoenix for your relocation.

Your Federal Rights on Your NJ to Phoenix Move

professional movers in Palisades Park, NJ

As an FMCSA-licensed interstate carrier (USDOT #1601312, MC #592337), Moving of America is required to provide every customer with specific federal protections:

    • The FMCSA “Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move” booklet is required by 49 CFR §375.213.
    • A written binding estimate before your move date.
    • A Bill of Lading on move day, your legal contract, and a receipt for the shipment.

You can verify our operating authority directly at safer.fmcsa.dot.gov by searching USDOT #1601312. A licensed carrier holds this authority in its own name; a broker does not.

Moving into a condo can get complicated with scheduling and elevators, but they handled it well. A bit of waiting here and there, but nothing out of the ordinary.

Thanks to Moving of America I had a stress-free and successful move. Office personnel was very organized and transparent about pricing. During moving day, office personnel called me multiple times to check in on the status of the move to make sure everything was running efficiently and smoothly.

Frequently Asked Questions About Moving from NJ to Phoenix

Transit typically takes 5 to 8 business days over roughly 2,400 miles via the I-40/70 corridor. The exact window depends on shipment weight, scheduling, and season; winter weather over Flagstaff is the main variable. Your binding estimate states the agreed delivery spread.

Most 1–4 bedroom households fall in the $4,000–$10,500 range, priced by total weight, distance, and services. The only figure that governs your move is the written binding estimate, which locks your price before move day.

Yes, for some items. Phoenix hits 110–115°F in summer, so we schedule unloads early in the morning and recommend climate-controlled transit for electronics, art, and wine. We also brief you on how to let wood furniture acclimate to Arizona’s dry air to prevent splitting.

Yes. Most Phoenix-area homes are in a master-planned HOA with gate codes, set move-in hours, and sometimes a Certificate of Insurance requirement. We confirm all of it during route planning so the truck is cleared on arrival.
Moving of America is a licensed interstate carrier (USDOT #1601312, MC #592337), not a broker. We own the trucks, employ the crew, and sign the binding estimate. Verify our authority at safer.fmcsa.dot.gov.
Yes. Storage-in-transit holds your household goods between your move-out and move-in dates, which is common when a closing slips or an HOA move-in window doesn’t line up with your departure from New Jersey.
